Centrally located in Croatia, Zagreb is the capital with a municipal population of nearly 800,000. The two parts of the city are called Gornji grad (Upper town) and Donji grad (Lower town). Each has a great amount to see when you are visiting the area on holiday, with Maksimir Park, Zagreb Zoo, the Jarun and Bundek lakes, Miramara Museum, the Mirogoj (cemetery), and the majestic mountains of Medvenica and Medvedgrad among many other activities. Zagreb Airport (ZAG) is the central airport in Croatia, and it is just ten kilometres from the Zagreb railway station, which makes it ideal for travel into this area. Low cost Rijeka flights take travellers to the city of Rijeka, which is 131 kilometres to the west of Zagreb, along the Adriatic coast, making this a feasible alternative travel option but not the best.
