Luxor is located in the eastern central part of Egypt, on the River Nile and is home to some of the most impressive ruins and monuments in Egypt. The East Bank is the main part of the city and features the Temple of Luxor and the Karnak open-air museum while the West Bank is lauded for extraordinary sights such as the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens featuring the tomb of Nefertiti, Mortuary Temples of Ramesses II, Merneptah, and Seti I, as well as the tombs of many famed Pharaohs. Luxor International Airport (LXR) serves the city and sits only six kilometres outside the centre of Luxor on the East Bank side of the Nile. Even though Luxor is a rather large city their international airport is the only one servicing the area within reason.
