Malatya is a wonderful large city in central-eastern Anatolia. Even though its population is only 400,000 people, the area is gaining a reputation as a popular tourist spot. Malatya is a new city when compared to the other Turkish cities, and this is reflected in a lot of the buildings and structures. The New Mosque was built in 1912, yet it is still one of the most beautiful sites in Malatya. If you are in the area in July, make sure that you visit the Malatya International Arts and Apricot Festival. Malatya is well-known for its tasty apricots, and a lot of the main attractions in the region surround this fruit. Malatya has a great airport which is just 30km outside the city of Malatya. However, there are few other options in the local area in terms of international airports, which means if you are flying into the region, make sure you check out all of your options at Malatya airport.
