An island of the English Channel located just off the coast of Normandy, Guernsey is governed apart from the United Kingdom. Guernsey is the main island of the Channel Islands, and it features many shops, pubs, and cafes lending to the quaint feel of this small island, though the other nearby islands make for great day trips. Alderney is three miles long and is just off the French coast, Sark is known for sights such as the Window in the Rock and the La Coupee (a nine foot wide isthmus that drops off as cliffs on either side), and the island of Herm is actually a treat as it can be privately rented. The only airport on Guernsey Island, Guernsey Airport (GCI) is located a little over four kilometres from St. Peter Port in the parish of Forest. Your other option is to obtain flights to Jersey, but this leaves you with a ferry crossing, even if the actual distance between the two is just 37 kilometres.
