The Corsican commune of Calvi is located in the north-east section of France’s Corsica Island and is rumoured to be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Calvi is also the home to the Tour Du Sel, also called Torra Di Calvi, one of France‘s historical monuments. The Mediterranean climate of the Island of Corsica lends itself to a large array of beach-related activities, though the nearby spas and the fantastic skydiving and hang gliding activities are equally important 'hooks' for both new and previous tourists. Low cost travel to Calvi can be found through Calvi Airport (CLY), which is also called the Calvi-Sainte-Catherine Airport, situated 6 km from the centre of the commune. Alternatively, low cost flights to Bastia Airport (BLA) can be obtained, as the airport is just 57 kms to the east of Calvi.
