Airline name: Baboo
Baboo ICAO code: BBO
Baboo website: www.flybaboo.com
Founded in 2003, FlyBaboo made its first flight from Geneva, Switzerland to Lugano on November 3rd that year following the decision by SWISS to cease operating that route. Otherwise referred to as “Baboo”, the new airline used a Cirrus Airlines aircraft to complete their debut flight and gained their Air Operator’s Certificate in 2004. Baboo soon grew to acquire a fleet of two Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft and offer low cost flights to such destinations as Ibiza, Florence, Biarritz, Prague, Valencia and Venice.
Their success was attributed to the clever use of codeshare agreements with larger European carriers such as TAROM, Olympic Air, Alitalia and Air France which saw the new venture carry more than 1.5 million passengers in their first six years. Baboo no longer operates since being taken over by Darwin Airlines in April 2011 and has seen all their routes absorbed into Darwin’s operation.
The ceasing of Baboo as a single entity does not have to signal all bad news for those after low cost European flights and travellers on the lookout for cheap European flights can now use the new Low Cost Airline Guide’s interactive flight finder located at www.low-cost-airline-guide.com/en/airline-route-map.htm.
